Narrative:

Departure from salt lake city was uneventful except for the fact that I was under the impression we had not received a departure clearance. As we took off and was switched over to departure, the first officer stated we had not received a pre departure clearance. This is supposed to be brought to the cockpit by the agent at departure time. When it is not brought to the cockpit, the first officer calls clearance delivery and verbally gets one. He had not done this, and I was under the impression we had taken off without a clearance, when in fact there was one on file with ZSE. The problem was they had computer problems at the gate we left from and the pre departure clearance never came out.

Title: THE FLC TOOK OFF WITHOUT KNOWING CLRNC AND XMITTING IMPROPER XPONDER CODE.

Narrative: DEP FROM SALT LAKE CITY WAS UNEVENTFUL EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION WE HAD NOT RECEIVED A DEP CLRNC. AS WE TOOK OFF AND WAS SWITCHED OVER TO DEP, THE FO STATED WE HAD NOT RECEIVED A PDC. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE BROUGHT TO THE COCKPIT BY THE AGENT AT DEP TIME. WHEN IT IS NOT BROUGHT TO THE COCKPIT, THE FO CALLS CLRNC DELIVERY AND VERBALLY GETS ONE. HE HAD NOT DONE THIS, AND I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION WE HAD TAKEN OFF WITHOUT A CLRNC, WHEN IN FACT THERE WAS ONE ON FILE WITH ZSE. THE PROB WAS THEY HAD COMPUTER PROBS AT THE GATE WE LEFT FROM AND THE PDC NEVER CAME OUT.
