Narrative:

I believe a hazard exists for aircraft landing on runway 24 at pal- waukee airport (pwk), wheeling, il. The forest preserve district of cook county has refused to trim trees on the final approach path to this runway. The answer so far by the FAA has been to displace the threshold approximately 1000 ft. This may seem like a good solution but it is further compounded by a 'hump' caused by intersecting runway 16/34. I am aware of several propeller dings caused when aircraft are crossing this intersection after touchdown. Many days the prevailing wind is suitable for pilots to use this runway, but due to narrow landing margins, pilots opt for crosswind runways. Perhaps a federal authority/authorized can talk some sense into the forest preserve management. After all this is the second or third busiest airport in illinois.

Title: ARPT PROB OBSTRUCTION. THIS ARPT HAS A FOREST WITH VERY HIGH TREES NEAR THE APCH END OF RWY 24. THE TREES HAVE NECESSITATED A DISPLACED THRESHOLD ON RWY THAT CONSIDERABLY REDUCES THE USEFULNESS OF THE RWY.

Narrative: I BELIEVE A HAZARD EXISTS FOR ACFT LNDG ON RWY 24 AT PAL- WAUKEE ARPT (PWK), WHEELING, IL. THE FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT OF COOK COUNTY HAS REFUSED TO TRIM TREES ON THE FINAL APCH PATH TO THIS RWY. THE ANSWER SO FAR BY THE FAA HAS BEEN TO DISPLACE THE THRESHOLD APPROX 1000 FT. THIS MAY SEEM LIKE A GOOD SOLUTION BUT IT IS FURTHER COMPOUNDED BY A 'HUMP' CAUSED BY INTERSECTING RWY 16/34. I AM AWARE OF SEVERAL PROP DINGS CAUSED WHEN ACFT ARE XING THIS INTXN AFTER TOUCHDOWN. MANY DAYS THE PREVAILING WIND IS SUITABLE FOR PLTS TO USE THIS RWY, BUT DUE TO NARROW LNDG MARGINS, PLTS OPT FOR XWIND RWYS. PERHAPS A FEDERAL AUTH CAN TALK SOME SENSE INTO THE FOREST PRESERVE MGMNT. AFTER ALL THIS IS THE SECOND OR THIRD BUSIEST ARPT IN ILLINOIS.
