Narrative:

Level at 7000 ft departing mia. Heading 340 degrees. Given a climb clearance to 16000 ft. Out of about 9000 ft TCASII went TA to RA. Reduced rate of climb. A 727 about 1700 ft above us was the conflict. Closest we came to the 727 was about 2 mi and 1500 ft. The first officer and I are certain of the climb clearance given us by ATC. TCASII worked as advertised.
