Narrative:
Center gave us a 310 degree heading out of center to intercept J16 west of alb to go to buf. I set buf and 279 degrees in my side. The captain set alb and 277 degrees in his side, which was for J82. I didn't double-check and I intercepted his course outbound waiting for my buf to come in. Center called us 53 DME out of alb and got us back on course. Need to double- check everything! Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter flies the dc-9 for a major united states air carrier. He admits that the captain goofed and that he failed to check the captain's heading. Check and double-check.
