Narrative:

While taxiing onto departure runway, captain advised 'you have the brakes' indicating I was to accomplish the takeoff. Takeoff was normal and first officer initiated turn toward canarsie VOR. At 1500 ft received an air supply advisory. Captain changed frequency to departure control and could not make contact. Returned to tower and received correct frequency. Prior to contacting departure control, leveling at 5000 ft MSL and 1 mi from canarsie VOR, aircraft experienced an autoflt malfunction. Due to these distrs, the turn to the SID departure course of cri/176 degree radial was delayed for a short period. Although the turn was initiated, we were advised on initial contact with ny departure to continue the turn to 080 degrees. The controller asked what SID we were assigned. We were advised we encroached lga airspace. No apparent conflicts appeared to have occurred with other aircraft, i.e., TCASII controller. No further discussion with the controller other than normal ATC directions. Aircraft system problems were corrected per flight manual procedures. Remainder of flight normal. Contributing factors: first leg of day had passenger with fatal heart attack on jet bridge. I feel this may have affected my performance somewhat. Multiple malfunctions and inability to contact departure at critical time caused crew distrs. These distrs caused late turn initiation. First officer on reserve, 21 days since last flight as PF. Captain failed to advise first officer prior to taking runway, that it would be the first officer flying. Captain made requests of first officer distracting him from primary duty of flying the aircraft. Corrective actions: ensure complete predep briefing, i.e., who flies, sids, frequency for departure. Maintain primary duty integrity. Make efforts to have reserve pilots fly more frequently.
