Narrative:

I was cleared for takeoff at 'cdw' airport on runway 27 with a left turn out to mmu. I climbed to approximately 900 ft MSL and turned left to mmu and was told by 'cdw' tower, 'frequency change approved.' I did think this was a little early, but I assumed there was limited traffic and the controller had all traffic in control. I switched directly to 'mmu' tower frequency as I had previously received 'mmu's' ATIS. 'Mmu' cleared me for entry to a right base for runway 30. As I passed through cdw southwest section of their airspace. I spotted a plane coming at me on the starboard side. We passed within 200 ft vertical of each other. I believe he was on a base for runway 4. I believe the controller released me from his control too soon. Also, you can never stop looking.

Narrative: I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF AT 'CDW' ARPT ON RWY 27 WITH A L TURN OUT TO MMU. I CLBED TO APPROX 900 FT MSL AND TURNED L TO MMU AND WAS TOLD BY 'CDW' TWR, 'FREQ CHANGE APPROVED.' I DID THINK THIS WAS A LITTLE EARLY, BUT I ASSUMED THERE WAS LIMITED TFC AND THE CTLR HAD ALL TFC IN CTL. I SWITCHED DIRECTLY TO 'MMU' TWR FREQ AS I HAD PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED 'MMU'S' ATIS.
