Narrative:

I was working final monitor north this morning. We were on runway 12L/right. The following aircraft were coasting: air carrier lda. Air carrier RRR. Air carrier lda. Air carrier RRR. Air carrier lda. Air carrier lda (set off the ca with itself). Air carrier lda. Air carrier RRR. Air carrier lda. Additionally, the final north controller advised me that air carrier was on downwind during the same rush and the target jumped, making it appear that he had turned base and causing unnecessary heart palpitations. The next rush we switched to runway 30L/right. I was working final north. The final south controller had a air carrier on downwind, it temporarily went into coast and ca'd with itself. (Once again causing unnecessary heart palpitations.) callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated the coasting problem became worse when stl started using the lda approach. A D BRITE radar scope was installed in the TRACON from the tower and the problem is not as bad.

Title: ATC EQUIP PROB RADAR ASR-9.

Narrative: I WAS WORKING FINAL MONITOR N THIS MORNING. WE WERE ON RWY 12L/R. THE FOLLOWING ACFT WERE COASTING: ACR LDA. ACR RRR. ACR LDA. ACR RRR. ACR LDA. ACR LDA (SET OFF THE CA WITH ITSELF). ACR LDA. ACR RRR. ACR LDA. ADDITIONALLY, THE FINAL N CTLR ADVISED ME THAT ACR WAS ON DOWNWIND DURING THE SAME RUSH AND THE TARGET JUMPED, MAKING IT APPEAR THAT HE HAD TURNED BASE AND CAUSING UNNECESSARY HEART PALPITATIONS. THE NEXT RUSH WE SWITCHED TO RWY 30L/R. I WAS WORKING FINAL N. THE FINAL S CTLR HAD A ACR ON DOWNWIND, IT TEMPORARILY WENT INTO COAST AND CA'D WITH ITSELF. (ONCE AGAIN CAUSING UNNECESSARY HEART PALPITATIONS.) CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THE COASTING PROB BECAME WORSE WHEN STL STARTED USING THE LDA APCH. A D BRITE RADAR SCOPE WAS INSTALLED IN THE TRACON FROM THE TWR AND THE PROB IS NOT AS BAD.
