Narrative:

ZID handed us off to evv approach. We checked on and received clearance to 2500 ft from evv approach. We complied and leveled at 2500 ft. The ride was mostly smooth with only occasional light chop. We suddenly realized that we were listening to ZID again when we heard another aircraft make a call to ZID. We immediately switched back to evv approach and were told to make an immediate right turn to the north for traffic. We were IMC and did not note a conflict. Neither myself nor my first officer had switched frequency and had another aircraft not made a call we may not have caught the fact that the frequency had 'automatic changed.' we have digital radios that show a standby frequency that can be transferred to active. Our company has recently opened a new terminal and with that we have begun new procedures that have us start engines on ground power and switch to engine generators before pushback. During this power transfer we get many strange bells and whistles and often have electrical system drop off line that must be reset. The #1 communication radio remains on during this power transfer because it is procedure and is not connected to the radio master as are all the other avionics. Although I am not sure, I do suspect we may have self-induced these spooky electrical occurrences with our new procedures.

Title: LOSS OF COM FREQ, EVV APCH UNABLE TO ESTABLISH RADIO CONTACT WITH E-120 CREW FOR SHORT TIME.

Narrative: ZID HANDED US OFF TO EVV APCH. WE CHKED ON AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO 2500 FT FROM EVV APCH. WE COMPLIED AND LEVELED AT 2500 FT. THE RIDE WAS MOSTLY SMOOTH WITH ONLY OCCASIONAL LIGHT CHOP. WE SUDDENLY REALIZED THAT WE WERE LISTENING TO ZID AGAIN WHEN WE HEARD ANOTHER ACFT MAKE A CALL TO ZID. WE IMMEDIATELY SWITCHED BACK TO EVV APCH AND WERE TOLD TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE R TURN TO THE N FOR TFC. WE WERE IMC AND DID NOT NOTE A CONFLICT. NEITHER MYSELF NOR MY FO HAD SWITCHED FREQ AND HAD ANOTHER ACFT NOT MADE A CALL WE MAY NOT HAVE CAUGHT THE FACT THAT THE FREQ HAD 'AUTO CHANGED.' WE HAVE DIGITAL RADIOS THAT SHOW A STANDBY FREQ THAT CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO ACTIVE. OUR COMPANY HAS RECENTLY OPENED A NEW TERMINAL AND WITH THAT WE HAVE BEGUN NEW PROCS THAT HAVE US START ENGS ON GND PWR AND SWITCH TO ENG GENERATORS BEFORE PUSHBACK. DURING THIS PWR TRANSFER WE GET MANY STRANGE BELLS AND WHISTLES AND OFTEN HAVE ELECTRICAL SYS DROP OFF LINE THAT MUST BE RESET. THE #1 COM RADIO REMAINS ON DURING THIS PWR TRANSFER BECAUSE IT IS PROC AND IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE RADIO MASTER AS ARE ALL THE OTHER AVIONICS. ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE, I DO SUSPECT WE MAY HAVE SELF-INDUCED THESE SPOOKY ELECTRICAL OCCURRENCES WITH OUR NEW PROCS.
