Narrative:

Scheduled pit to dfw. FAA air carrier inspector in cockpit with crew for a line check. Before passing stl VORTAC, center gave us a 221 degree radial till receiving fsm VORTAC. Instead of J-8, cutting corner and time. About 60 mi past stl, a female controller, sounding concerned on the radio told us to turn right 20-30 degrees as we have entered a military training area. The turn was executed. I then asked ATC where is the so- called training area. She said we had entered the active lindberg MOA, which is used up to FL500 (50000). I said it is not on our chart (commercial charts 7-8, or 3-4). Somebody else on frequency commented it's on the sectional. Well, since when do airliners, flying at FL350, use sectionals? Dumb question hey! The lindberg MOA is shown on low altitude v-chart 16-17 and is shown only from 7000 ft to FL180. Controller admitted mistake by giving us a shortcut. I said it needs to be noted on chart. I called area manager at ZKC and also discussed with the assistant manager airspace and procedures. There was no conflict filed by controllers, so my call initiated information pipeline. The USAF tfw out of st louis has control of lindbergh MOA, with recent requested increase to FL500. I was told it was notamed operational 1045 to 1145 EDT (1445 to 1545Z up to and including FL500. I asked why that area is not shown on charts as it is in position control (class a) airspace and should be noted on chart. Apparently the national flight data center does not think it is necessary as controllers are made aware of applicable time usage. My flight information WX-dispatch release had no knowledge of this NOTAM. I couldn't locate a copy anywhere. The ctrl slipped up by clearing us through a hot area, since he was supposed to know. We were not informed, had no knowledge of airspace usage in jet structure, and something could have happened. I have contacted alpa safety hot line and am going to make sure charts have notations of all special use airspace, climbing into high altitude structure. Damn military thinks airspace is theirs for the asking/taking at their leisure. Not if I can stop it.

Narrative: SCHEDULED PIT TO DFW. FAA ACR INSPECTOR IN COCKPIT WITH CREW FOR A LINE CHK. BEFORE PASSING STL VORTAC, CTR GAVE US A 221 DEG RADIAL TILL RECEIVING FSM VORTAC. INSTEAD OF J-8, CUTTING CORNER AND TIME. ABOUT 60 MI PAST STL, A FEMALE CTLR, SOUNDING CONCERNED ON THE RADIO TOLD US TO TURN R 20-30 DEGS AS WE HAVE ENTERED A MIL TRAINING AREA. SOMEBODY ELSE ON FREQ COMMENTED IT'S ON THE SECTIONAL. WELL, SINCE WHEN DO AIRLINERS, FLYING AT FL350, USE SECTIONALS? DUMB QUESTION HEY! THE LINDBERG MOA IS SHOWN ON LOW ALT V-CHART 16-17 AND IS SHOWN ONLY FROM 7000 FT TO FL180. CTLR ADMITTED MISTAKE BY GIVING US A SHORTCUT. I SAID IT NEEDS TO BE NOTED ON CHART. I CALLED AREA MGR AT ZKC AND ALSO DISCUSSED WITH THE ASSISTANT MGR AIRSPACE AND PROCS. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT FILED BY CTLRS, SO MY CALL INITIATED INFO PIPELINE. THE USAF TFW OUT OF ST LOUIS HAS CTL OF LINDBERGH MOA, WITH RECENT REQUESTED INCREASE TO FL500. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOTAMED OPERATIONAL 1045 TO 1145 EDT (1445 TO 1545Z UP TO AND INCLUDING FL500. I ASKED WHY THAT AREA IS NOT SHOWN ON CHARTS AS IT IS IN POS CTL (CLASS A) AIRSPACE AND SHOULD BE NOTED ON CHART. APPARENTLY THE NATIONAL FLT DATA CTR DOES NOT THINK IT IS NECESSARY AS CTLRS ARE MADE AWARE OF APPLICABLE TIME USAGE. MY FLT INFO WX-DISPATCH RELEASE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS NOTAM. I COULDN'T LOCATE A COPY ANYWHERE. THE CTRL SLIPPED UP BY CLRING US THROUGH A HOT AREA, SINCE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO KNOW. WE WERE NOT INFORMED, HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF AIRSPACE USAGE IN JET STRUCTURE, AND SOMETHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED. I HAVE CONTACTED ALPA SAFETY HOT LINE AND AM GOING TO MAKE SURE CHARTS HAVE NOTATIONS OF ALL SPECIAL USE AIRSPACE, CLBING INTO HIGH ALT STRUCTURE. DAMN MIL THINKS AIRSPACE IS THEIRS FOR THE ASKING/TAKING AT THEIR LEISURE. NOT IF I CAN STOP IT.
