Narrative:

I was the PF from paris (cdg) to lax. The captain was on break and the other first officer was in the left seat. We were at FL370 talking with winnipeg (133.9) center heading 200 degree about 40 mi north of the lorna intersection. Center asked us to descend to FL350 for traffic. I started a descent at 500 FPM, 20 seconds later center told us to turn right 30 degrees. Within seconds we had a TA on TCASII within 5 seconds of the TA, we had an RA (descend) I took to the aircraft off the autoplt and pushed the nose abruptly over to an approximately 4000 FPM rate of sink. We then noticed an aircraft pass from our right to our left at 370 at 1000 ft above us and perhaps 2 or 3 mi ahead of us. Obviously we were not given ample warning of this potential conflict and it required TCASII to ensure our safety.

Title: CTLR CLRS RPTR TO DSND TO FL350 FROM FL370 FOR TFC: WHEREUPON, THE RPTR RESPONDS WITH A 500 FPM RATE OF DSCNT AND SUBSEQUENTLY GETS A TCASII RA TO DSND.

Narrative: I WAS THE PF FROM PARIS (CDG) TO LAX. THE CAPT WAS ON BREAK AND THE OTHER FO WAS IN THE L SEAT. WE WERE AT FL370 TALKING WITH WINNIPEG (133.9) CTR HDG 200 DEG ABOUT 40 MI N OF THE LORNA INTXN. CTR ASKED US TO DSND TO FL350 FOR TFC. I STARTED A DSCNT AT 500 FPM, 20 SECONDS LATER CTR TOLD US TO TURN R 30 DEGS. WITHIN SECONDS WE HAD A TA ON TCASII WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF THE TA, WE HAD AN RA (DSND) I TOOK TO THE ACFT OFF THE AUTOPLT AND PUSHED THE NOSE ABRUPTLY OVER TO AN APPROX 4000 FPM RATE OF SINK. WE THEN NOTICED AN ACFT PASS FROM OUR R TO OUR L AT 370 AT 1000 FT ABOVE US AND PERHAPS 2 OR 3 MI AHEAD OF US. OBVIOUSLY WE WERE NOT GIVEN AMPLE WARNING OF THIS POTENTIAL CONFLICT AND IT REQUIRED TCASII TO ENSURE OUR SAFETY.
