Narrative:

Descending to pit approximately XX35 Z cleared to 10000 ft prior to cutta intersection. About 10800 ft received TA traffic checked navigation display traffic 2 O'clock about 3 mi. Attempted visual up the target visually unable. At the same time controller on 128.15 said you might want to level off or climb back up you have traffic VFR at 10500 ft. Approach just told me. As she was speaking TCASII gave a RA of climb, climb with the red arrow indicating climb. I started a climb back toward 11000 ft. First officer was attempting to find the target -- he did see it as it passed directly under us. It would have been extremely close or worse. Informed center we were clear of traffic and descending back to 10000 ft. No further exchange of information. Changed to approach control. Landed normally TCASII has paid for its entire cost with this conflict resolution.
