Narrative:

Took off out of pbi on typical florida afternoon with numerous thunderstorms throughout florida. WX took us east of course. Immediately, east of orl, we continued to fly east of course. When 40 southeast of jax, center gave us 3 options: 1) turn west into line of thunderstorm, 2) reverse course, 3) squawk 7700 and turn west when able. We opted for option 3 and continued the 7700 code for approximately 12 mins. In the future when deviations are needed ATC should inform that WX extends into the hot warning areas as early as possible when options as to which way to circumnav the WX are open. Supplemental information from acn 278379: required to exercise my emergency authority/authorized and enter the warning airspace off the coast of florida to avoid penetrating a severe thunderstorm area. No traffic or ATC conflict and several other aircraft were required to do the same.
