Narrative:

We were told to taxi to the intersection of runway 17 and taxiway hotel. Previous 2 planes were given a runway 17 departure from hotel. When we took the runway we lined up for departure on runway 17. Tower said, 'I meant for you to depart on runway 13, but go ahead and depart on runway 17. No delay. Traffic on final for runway 17.' we began to roll down runway 17. The takeoff was aborted when we saw there appeared to be inadequate runway. We taxied back and took off on runway 13. Factors: don't do intersection departures unless sure of length remaining. (The E110's certification does not require takeoff runway analysis.) don't assume tower knows how much runway you need. Don't be pressured into a decision by controller telling you 'no delay.' refuse clearance if needed.

THE TKOF WAS ABORTED WHEN WE SAW THERE APPEARED TO BE INADEQUATE RWY. WE TAXIED BACK AND TOOK OFF ON RWY 13. FACTORS: DON'T DO INTXN DEPS UNLESS SURE OF LENGTH REMAINING. (THE E110'S CERTIFICATION DOES NOT REQUIRE TKOF RWY ANALYSIS.) DON'T ASSUME TWR KNOWS HOW MUCH RWY YOU NEED. DON'T BE PRESSURED INTO A DECISION BY CTLR TELLING YOU 'NO DELAY.'
