Narrative:

I, the flight engineer, arrived at departure aircraft 45 mins before departure. Copilot arrived shortly thereafter. Maintenance arrived to resolve a window seal problem in logbook from previous crew. Maintenance left and said you guys are all set. Captain came in cockpit 10 mins before departure. We ran appropriate checklists and left gate. 30 mins later, while holding for takeoff, it dawned on me I never checked the maintenance log for its signoff. I checked it, and although they told me we were all set, they didn't sign off the paperwork. Supplemental information from acn 277497: left gate with open undiscovered maintenance write-up. Flight engineer informed captain and we returned to closest point to maintenance to get it fixed prior to any flight.
