Narrative:

Takeoff was normal, once airborne the gear handle was selected to up and the 3 'red' transition lights illuminated. Tower immediately turned us over to departure. Departure gave us additional TA's along with a traffic avoidance heading. First officer was busy searching for traffic -- one above and other below a scattered broken cloud deck. During this time I quickly glanced at our confign and scanned the engine instruments. The flaps indicated up and gear handle was up. My glance was hampered by the strong sunlight shining into the cockpit, still I did not notice any gear indicating lights on. (No lights means gear is up.) the engines were operating normally. We were not climbing as fast as I expected but we were near maximum gross weight and it was a hot day. While clearing for traffic, the first officer completed the after takeoff checklist. Passing through 10000 ft he noticed the 3 'green' indicating lights meaning 'gear down and locked.' we rechked circuit breakers and consulted the quick reaction checklist. As a safety precaution we lowered the gear handle to agree with the lights. Since we were approaching cruise altitude, I elected to treat this as an en route incident. Maintenance control was notified by radio and directed us to land at swf. Once handed over to the local controllers we declared an emergency, did a visual low approach so tower could confirm our gear down, then landed uneventfully.

Title: FLC OF AN LTT DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED FOR LNDG AFTER UNSUCCESSFULLY TRYING TO RETRACT THE LNDG GEAR.

Narrative: TKOF WAS NORMAL, ONCE AIRBORNE THE GEAR HANDLE WAS SELECTED TO UP AND THE 3 'RED' TRANSITION LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. TWR IMMEDIATELY TURNED US OVER TO DEP. DEP GAVE US ADDITIONAL TA'S ALONG WITH A TFC AVOIDANCE HDG. FO WAS BUSY SEARCHING FOR TFC -- ONE ABOVE AND OTHER BELOW A SCATTERED BROKEN CLOUD DECK. DURING THIS TIME I QUICKLY GLANCED AT OUR CONFIGN AND SCANNED THE ENG INSTS. THE FLAPS INDICATED UP AND GEAR HANDLE WAS UP. MY GLANCE WAS HAMPERED BY THE STRONG SUNLIGHT SHINING INTO THE COCKPIT, STILL I DID NOT NOTICE ANY GEAR INDICATING LIGHTS ON. (NO LIGHTS MEANS GEAR IS UP.) THE ENGS WERE OPERATING NORMALLY. WE WERE NOT CLBING AS FAST AS I EXPECTED BUT WE WERE NEAR MAX GROSS WT AND IT WAS A HOT DAY. WHILE CLRING FOR TFC, THE FO COMPLETED THE AFTER TKOF CHKLIST. PASSING THROUGH 10000 FT HE NOTICED THE 3 'GREEN' INDICATING LIGHTS MEANING 'GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED.' WE RECHKED CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND CONSULTED THE QUICK REACTION CHKLIST. AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION WE LOWERED THE GEAR HANDLE TO AGREE WITH THE LIGHTS. SINCE WE WERE APCHING CRUISE ALT, I ELECTED TO TREAT THIS AS AN ENRTE INCIDENT. MAINT CTL WAS NOTIFIED BY RADIO AND DIRECTED US TO LAND AT SWF. ONCE HANDED OVER TO THE LCL CTLRS WE DECLARED AN EMER, DID A VISUAL LOW APCH SO TWR COULD CONFIRM OUR GEAR DOWN, THEN LANDED UNEVENTFULLY.
