Narrative:

During climb around FL240 the engineer notified me the oil temperature gauge was well above redline. There did not seem to have been a slow temperature rise, but just an off scale reading. It appeared to us that the gauge had malfunctioned but we leveled off at FL270 to try and cool the oil. We went through the operating manual procedures and after that, the oil pressure dropped to 40 psi and the oil quantity was very slowly decreasing. We went through the precautionary shutdown procedure -- dumped fuel -- and returned to dfw. As the throttle was retarded to idle during shutdown, the oil pressure dropped to 30 psi. Landing weight was 153000 pounds with a maximum landing weight for this aircraft of 154500 pounds. 2 engine flight time was 25 mins remaining flight was normal with no other problems.

LNDG WT WAS 153000 LBS WITH A MAX LNDG WT FOR THIS ACFT OF 154500 LBS. 2 ENG FLT TIME WAS 25 MINS REMAINING FLT WAS NORMAL WITH NO OTHER PROBS.
