Narrative:

PF miscounted aircraft in busy pattern and turned inside other traffic. I queried this but had not been paying full attention to radio (pilot is fully qualified). I was looking for traffic but was distraction by an aircraft some distance ahead, apparently not in the pattern. Other pilot and controller apparently under training -- did not help. Must stay alert to sequence calls even when PNF.

Title: PLT OF A SMA SEL CUT IN FRONT OF ANOTHER ACFT ON FINAL CAUSING A NMAC.

Narrative: PF MISCOUNTED ACFT IN BUSY PATTERN AND TURNED INSIDE OTHER TFC. I QUERIED THIS BUT HAD NOT BEEN PAYING FULL ATTN TO RADIO (PLT IS FULLY QUALIFIED). I WAS LOOKING FOR TFC BUT WAS DISTR BY AN ACFT SOME DISTANCE AHEAD, APPARENTLY NOT IN THE PATTERN. OTHER PLT AND CTLR APPARENTLY UNDER TRAINING -- DID NOT HELP. MUST STAY ALERT TO SEQUENCE CALLS EVEN WHEN PNF.
