Narrative:

We were approaching dfw from the blue ridge VOR. Approximately 10 NM northeast of airport we reported the airport in sight and were cleared for the visual approach to runway 17L. I accidentally lined up for runway 18L. I double-checked my localizer CDI (it was set to runway 17L) and realized I had lined up for the wrong runway. As I started my correction back to runway 17L the tower also noticed our position and cleared us to land on runway 17R. We landed without incident. There was no conflict or evasive action needed as there was not much traffic in the area at the time. At airports with many runways it is obviously important to have all navaids tuned in (which we did) but also, to pay close attention and keep the heads out of the cockpit. The first officer in this case was busy reading the 'before landing checklist' and therefore did not see me line up on the wrong runway.

Title: CAPT OF LTT OVERSHOT FINAL BY STARTING TO LINE UP WITH ANOTHER PARALLEL RWY BY MISTAKE.

Narrative: WE WERE APCHING DFW FROM THE BLUE RIDGE VOR. APPROX 10 NM NE OF ARPT WE RPTED THE ARPT IN SIGHT AND WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH TO RWY 17L. I ACCIDENTALLY LINED UP FOR RWY 18L. I DOUBLE-CHKED MY LOC CDI (IT WAS SET TO RWY 17L) AND REALIZED I HAD LINED UP FOR THE WRONG RWY. AS I STARTED MY CORRECTION BACK TO RWY 17L THE TWR ALSO NOTICED OUR POS AND CLRED US TO LAND ON RWY 17R. WE LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT OR EVASIVE ACTION NEEDED AS THERE WAS NOT MUCH TFC IN THE AREA AT THE TIME. AT ARPTS WITH MANY RWYS IT IS OBVIOUSLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE ALL NAVAIDS TUNED IN (WHICH WE DID) BUT ALSO, TO PAY CLOSE ATTN AND KEEP THE HEADS OUT OF THE COCKPIT. THE FO IN THIS CASE WAS BUSY READING THE 'BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST' AND THEREFORE DID NOT SEE ME LINE UP ON THE WRONG RWY.
