Narrative:

While on a day VFR flight from tvc to owosso, mi, 5d3 I had a crosswind landing accident upon landing at 5d3. The flight from tvc at 5500 ft was normal and quite calm. Winds were 35 KTS at 020 degrees visibility 20 mi. Approximately 10 mi from 5d3 I attempted to contact the local airport on unicom as was my normal procedure. After no response for the local winds and active I set up and announced a 5 mi final for owosso community 5d3 runway 10. On final approach everything was going well. Upon flaring for landing I lost control over the centerline and drifted into the runway lights. 2 of the runway lights were knocked down with the right wing of the aircraft. I taxied and parked at the tie downs. No one was at the airport manager's office so I continued to my meeting. Upon returning to the airport approximately XA00 I informed the local mechanics of my mishap and they found the manager so that I could report to him. I do not feel the crosswind that was encountered was excessive at the time. The proficiency of my crosswind work I feel must be improved. I am familiar with the airport and know of the winds. The choice of an alternate grass strip should have been made. I can blame only myself for my mistake. I do plan to do more crosswind work with an instructor. The important factor for me in the future is to check at every available indicator, the runway conditions and factors contributing to landing.

Title: PVT PLT OF A SMA SEL LOST CTL OF THE ACFT DURING LNDG AND DRIFTED OFF THE SIDE OF THE RWY STRIKING 2 RWY LIGHTS WITH THE WING.

Narrative: WHILE ON A DAY VFR FLT FROM TVC TO OWOSSO, MI, 5D3 I HAD A XWIND LNDG ACCIDENT UPON LNDG AT 5D3. THE FLT FROM TVC AT 5500 FT WAS NORMAL AND QUITE CALM. WINDS WERE 35 KTS AT 020 DEGS VISIBILITY 20 MI. APPROX 10 MI FROM 5D3 I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE LCL ARPT ON UNICOM AS WAS MY NORMAL PROC. AFTER NO RESPONSE FOR THE LCL WINDS AND ACTIVE I SET UP AND ANNOUNCED A 5 MI FINAL FOR OWOSSO COMMUNITY 5D3 RWY 10. ON FINAL APCH EVERYTHING WAS GOING WELL. UPON FLARING FOR LNDG I LOST CTL OVER THE CTRLINE AND DRIFTED INTO THE RWY LIGHTS. 2 OF THE RWY LIGHTS WERE KNOCKED DOWN WITH THE R WING OF THE ACFT. I TAXIED AND PARKED AT THE TIE DOWNS. NO ONE WAS AT THE ARPT MGR'S OFFICE SO I CONTINUED TO MY MEETING. UPON RETURNING TO THE ARPT APPROX XA00 I INFORMED THE LCL MECHS OF MY MISHAP AND THEY FOUND THE MGR SO THAT I COULD RPT TO HIM. I DO NOT FEEL THE XWIND THAT WAS ENCOUNTERED WAS EXCESSIVE AT THE TIME. THE PROFICIENCY OF MY XWIND WORK I FEEL MUST BE IMPROVED. I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND KNOW OF THE WINDS. THE CHOICE OF AN ALTERNATE GRASS STRIP SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE. I CAN BLAME ONLY MYSELF FOR MY MISTAKE. I DO PLAN TO DO MORE XWIND WORK WITH AN INSTRUCTOR. THE IMPORTANT FACTOR FOR ME IN THE FUTURE IS TO CHK AT EVERY AVAILABLE INDICATOR, THE RWY CONDITIONS AND FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO LNDG.
