Narrative:

Back side of reduced rest overnight, 9TH hour of a 13 hour day. Had a 45 min on ground in sfo before the leg to fat. 10 mins before departure time, the ramp supervisor advised us that we were to swap into another aircraft. Maintenance was working on the aircraft we were to swap into. They (maintenance) cleared the 2 write ups on that page and I asked the captain I was giving IOE (initial operating experience) to look through the log while I got the passenger on the aircraft. After we got into the air, I took the time to look through the logbook. The aircraft had been written up 2 times before for the same thing. The flaps bleed down and the demist foot directional control wasn't working. The second time those were written up maintenance cleared the flap write up, but not the de-mist write up. This write up was 7 pages back from the log sheet I was on. 3 different crews flew the aircraft with the open write up before I found it. When I talked to our maintenance controller, he said he thought that there might have been an open write up, but did nothing about it. It was a long day and I was mad about the aircraft swap. I trusted the captain I was giving IOE to that he would catch anything in the log -- he didn't.
