Narrative:

Flight following from 045 to sql. Bay approach cleared small aircraft X over concord/walnut creek 'direct oak VOR' and to descend to 2500 ft. X complied and as we crossed the airport, I asked for direct sql. Bay approach said we should be talking to oakland tower. After the initial clearance, we were never told to contact oakland (or given any other instructions). I think he forgot about us. I've never flown into the bay over oakland before and in retrospect, probably will avoid it in the future (too much opportunity for airspace conflict and besides, it's awful lonely at 1500 ft over the bay!).

Narrative: FLT FOLLOWING FROM 045 TO SQL. BAY APCH CLRED SMA X OVER CONCORD/WALNUT CREEK 'DIRECT OAK VOR' AND TO DSND TO 2500 FT. X COMPLIED AND AS WE CROSSED THE ARPT, I ASKED FOR DIRECT SQL.
