Narrative:

During cruise the right autoplt recycled off. It was re- engaged. It kicked off again and the right generator light came on. ZLA gave us a descent to FL350 and the captain took the aircraft. I performed the generator off checklist but the generator would not reset. We then smelled a burning electrical smell. We donned our oxygen masks and coordinated a descent with ZLA. We started the APU during the descent. The flight attendants called and told us they smelled a 'burning plastic smell.' we began the 'smoke identify removal' checklist and the fumes dissipated passing FL280. We continued the descent and proceeded to las as it was the closest suitable field from our position. We then began work on our electrical malfunctions. We now had numerous caution lights, messages and failures including the right AC bus, right generator drive, both utility busses, battery discharge and a blank lower EICAS CRT. We performed the generator drive, and right AC bus off checklists. The right AC bus remained unpwred even though the APU was operating normally. During this, the cockpit and cabin began getting warm. The cabin pressurization and packs seemed to be functioning normally. The right recirculation fan was off due to the utility busses not being pwred. The left recirculation fan was on. The equipment cooling overheat light came on and we performed the checklist. However, the overheat light never extinguished during the flight. During the remainder of the flight we lost both ADI CRT's and both EICAS CRT's. On final approach, we were using the standby altitude indication/ILS and standby engine instruments.

Title: FLC OF A B757 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED TO LAND AFTER EXPERIENCING AN EXTENSIVE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION.

Narrative: DURING CRUISE THE R AUTOPLT RECYCLED OFF. IT WAS RE- ENGAGED. IT KICKED OFF AGAIN AND THE R GENERATOR LIGHT CAME ON. ZLA GAVE US A DSCNT TO FL350 AND THE CAPT TOOK THE ACFT. I PERFORMED THE GENERATOR OFF CHKLIST BUT THE GENERATOR WOULD NOT RESET. WE THEN SMELLED A BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL. WE DONNED OUR OXYGEN MASKS AND COORDINATED A DSCNT WITH ZLA. WE STARTED THE APU DURING THE DSCNT. THE FLT ATTENDANTS CALLED AND TOLD US THEY SMELLED A 'BURNING PLASTIC SMELL.' WE BEGAN THE 'SMOKE IDENT REMOVAL' CHKLIST AND THE FUMES DISSIPATED PASSING FL280. WE CONTINUED THE DSCNT AND PROCEEDED TO LAS AS IT WAS THE CLOSEST SUITABLE FIELD FROM OUR POS. WE THEN BEGAN WORK ON OUR ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS. WE NOW HAD NUMEROUS CAUTION LIGHTS, MESSAGES AND FAILURES INCLUDING THE R AC BUS, R GENERATOR DRIVE, BOTH UTILITY BUSSES, BATTERY DISCHARGE AND A BLANK LOWER EICAS CRT. WE PERFORMED THE GENERATOR DRIVE, AND R AC BUS OFF CHKLISTS. THE R AC BUS REMAINED UNPWRED EVEN THOUGH THE APU WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. DURING THIS, THE COCKPIT AND CABIN BEGAN GETTING WARM. THE CABIN PRESSURIZATION AND PACKS SEEMED TO BE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THE R RECIRCULATION FAN WAS OFF DUE TO THE UTILITY BUSSES NOT BEING PWRED. THE L RECIRCULATION FAN WAS ON. THE EQUIP COOLING OVERHEAT LIGHT CAME ON AND WE PERFORMED THE CHKLIST. HOWEVER, THE OVERHEAT LIGHT NEVER EXTINGUISHED DURING THE FLT. DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WE LOST BOTH ADI CRT'S AND BOTH EICAS CRT'S. ON FINAL APCH, WE WERE USING THE STANDBY ALT INDICATION/ILS AND STANDBY ENG INSTS.
