Narrative:

On approach to runway 34 ZZZ airport, us, discovered that a radio tower approximately 150 ft tall had been erected obstructing the normal glide path/course to runway 34. Later that night while flying a scheduled medivac flight from ZZZ, I discovered the tower was lighted. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states the tower is approximately 4 degrees right of approach course. The red light on top blends with surrounding city lights and pilot is not aware it is elevated until quite close. Placement is about 1/8 mi from end of runway. 1 of the local FBO's contacted the FAA who informed him that the airport does not receive FAA funding. Consequently, FAA has no jurisdiction. Apparently, there is quite a bit of political maneuvering going on in regard to the airport. Reporter feels the safety issues are getting lost.
