Narrative:

Subsequent to an off field landing with substantial damage to the aircraft, an inspection by the FAA investigator revealed that the static check 2 yr test date had expired (it had been tested in compliance with 91-171, appendix 'east,' part 43 on 11/21/91. I failed to track the expiration date. An addenda is being made to the preflight checklist to check this item, and I am setting up a database on my personal computer to flag all related time critical items for the aircraft to help ensure safe and compliant operations.
