Narrative:

On arrival in atl, gate was not open so held on taxiway. Shut down #1 and #3 for fuel conservation. Aircraft was light enough to taxi on #2 only. When cleared to gate the gate was not ready and had to stop short. It took about 80 percent N3 to get moving again. The next day, I was informed that some baggage carts behind were blown into another aircraft causing minor damage. These carts were approximately 150 ft away and if properly parked, brakes set and/or chocked should not have been blown around. Supervisory personnel should insure that their workers secure all ground equipment properly as jet blast is a given on an airport ramp.
