Narrative:
I requested the IFR clearance from clearance via ACARS. I never received a clearance and forgot to get one. We took off without a clearance squawking 0000. Although I received a message from clearance, it was too early to get one. We fly in and out the airport on a regular basis and know the clearance but never got a squawk code. Distraction in the cockpit and having preset the altitude encoder contributed to taking off without a clearance. Supplemental information from acn 268370: first officer called clearance delivery and was told to standby. Departure control said we were squawking 0000 (which the first officer had set to remind him to get a clearance).
