Narrative:

Dab (daytona beach, fl) arsa tower cleared me for runway 7L landing, unfamiliar airport upon final approach. Construction underway on both txwys and runway and no runway letter/number marker visible made it difficult to distinguish taxiway on left from runway 7L to the right. No airplanes were present. I announced final to tower and assumed left taxiway was runway 7L. I realized my mistake on short final and in the interest of safety, did not try to correct, but landed on empty taxiway. Tower then informed of error, said they did not advise me of error in the interest of safety, i.e., sudden evasive maneuver.
