Narrative:

As the flight was boarded, a passenger came into the cockpit and talked with me for around 15 mins. After we were en route, the flight attendant asked if the passenger could see the cockpit again. The passenger was in the cockpit for around 10 mins when the interphone rang and the flight attendant said that a passenger had asked that the 'teenager' be removed from the cockpit. After the girl returned to her seat, she told a friend that she had flown the airplane. When I allowed the passenger into the cockpit I thought the flight attendant knew the passenger. Because of this and the fact that this is authorized on the J-31 (which I have previously served as captain on), I felt as though this would not jeopardize aircraft security. While the passenger was in the cockpit I explained some of the controls to her and let her move the heading bug of the autoplt while I also held the control. I do not think this would be considered manipulation of the flight controls, which is forbidden by far 135-113. I did not intentionally violate any FARS. Consistency among FARS and clearer definitions of terms, perhaps even examples, would increase my understanding of FARS. Supplemental information from acn 265885: I had no prior knowledge the passenger was coming to the flight deck nor had I been asked if I minded. Although I don't believe any far was violated, our company policy does not allow passenger to the flight deck. Even though I was first officer, on the flight, I should have expressed my disapproval. I have learned that I will no longer allow any passenger access to the flight deck during any phase of flight.

Title: LTT CAPT ALLOWS PAX ON FLT DECK DURING CRUISE.

Narrative: AS THE FLT WAS BOARDED, A PAX CAME INTO THE COCKPIT AND TALKED WITH ME FOR AROUND 15 MINS. AFTER WE WERE ENRTE, THE FLT ATTENDANT ASKED IF THE PAX COULD SEE THE COCKPIT AGAIN. THE PAX WAS IN THE COCKPIT FOR AROUND 10 MINS WHEN THE INTERPHONE RANG AND THE FLT ATTENDANT SAID THAT A PAX HAD ASKED THAT THE 'TEENAGER' BE REMOVED FROM THE COCKPIT. BECAUSE OF THIS AND THE FACT THAT THIS IS AUTHORIZED ON THE J-31 (WHICH I HAVE PREVIOUSLY SERVED AS CAPT ON), I FELT AS THOUGH THIS WOULD NOT JEOPARDIZE ACFT SECURITY. WHILE THE PAX WAS IN THE COCKPIT I EXPLAINED SOME OF THE CTLS TO HER AND LET HER MOVE THE HDG BUG OF THE AUTOPLT WHILE I ALSO HELD THE CTL. I DO NOT THINK THIS WOULD BE CONSIDERED MANIPULATION OF THE FLT CTLS, WHICH IS FORBIDDEN BY FAR 135-113. I DID NOT INTENTIONALLY VIOLATE ANY FARS. CONSISTENCY AMONG FARS AND CLEARER DEFINITIONS OF TERMS, PERHAPS EVEN EXAMPLES, WOULD INCREASE MY UNDERSTANDING OF FARS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 265885: I HAD NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE THE PAX WAS COMING TO THE FLT DECK NOR HAD I BEEN ASKED IF I MINDED. ALTHOUGH I DON'T BELIEVE ANY FAR WAS VIOLATED, OUR COMPANY POLICY DOES NOT ALLOW PAX TO THE FLT DECK. EVEN THOUGH I WAS FO, ON THE FLT, I SHOULD HAVE EXPRESSED MY DISAPPROVAL. I HAVE LEARNED THAT I WILL NO LONGER ALLOW ANY PAX ACCESS TO THE FLT DECK DURING ANY PHASE OF FLT.
