Narrative:

While taxiing on taxiway K (lax) wbound at intersection 45 we were hit by a tire that came off a cart driving on the service road. The tire (hit) bounced from behind into the left engine. Unknown at the time what hit us we did an engine shutdown. After opening the door we saw that parts of the blades were missing (1/2 to 1 ft). Ground and city operations and the police were notified immediately. Reports were taken at the scene. The airplane was then towed to the gate. I also informed maintenance and dispatch including the NTSB. At the time I thought I did everything necessary. A few hours later we got a different airplane and proceeded to our destination airport. Unfortunately, I failed to write in the aircraft log that it was not airworthy to fly. It was so obvious, half of the propellers were missing!
