Narrative:

Arrived at aircraft in morning to discover deferred item in logbook; 'thrust reverse operating lights.' previous crew did not state in maintenance logbook whether the reverser was used on arrival. If used, a visual inspection is required to confirm it stowed in forward thrust position. I called main base maintenance to determine if an inspection was required. Man on duty informed me that an inspection was not required unless crew wrote in log that reverser was used on arrival. No such entry was made and, based upon our own inspection, (flight engineer), and all other indications, I was satisfied that reverser was stowed. We operated the flight uneventfully. In retrospect, it would seem to me that this inspection would be required by maintenance unless the previous crew specifically stated in log that the reverser was not used upon arrival. In the future, I will demand an inspection by maintenance in this situation.

Title: AN ACR CAPT WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE HIS ACR'S LOGBOOK PROC ON REVERSER LIGHTS BEING INOP.

Narrative: ARRIVED AT ACFT IN MORNING TO DISCOVER DEFERRED ITEM IN LOGBOOK; 'THRUST REVERSE OPERATING LIGHTS.' PREVIOUS CREW DID NOT STATE IN MAINT LOGBOOK WHETHER THE REVERSER WAS USED ON ARR. IF USED, A VISUAL INSPECTION IS REQUIRED TO CONFIRM IT STOWED IN FORWARD THRUST POS. I CALLED MAIN BASE MAINT TO DETERMINE IF AN INSPECTION WAS REQUIRED. MAN ON DUTY INFORMED ME THAT AN INSPECTION WAS NOT REQUIRED UNLESS CREW WROTE IN LOG THAT REVERSER WAS USED ON ARR. NO SUCH ENTRY WAS MADE AND, BASED UPON OUR OWN INSPECTION, (FE), AND ALL OTHER INDICATIONS, I WAS SATISFIED THAT REVERSER WAS STOWED. WE OPERATED THE FLT UNEVENTFULLY. IN RETROSPECT, IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT THIS INSPECTION WOULD BE REQUIRED BY MAINT UNLESS THE PREVIOUS CREW SPECIFICALLY STATED IN LOG THAT THE REVERSER WAS NOT USED UPON ARR. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL DEMAND AN INSPECTION BY MAINT IN THIS SIT.
