Narrative:

I was en route from W44 with VFR flight following, squawking wxyz, level at 6500 ft in the beckly, wv, area. ZID advised us of jet traffic at our 8 O'clock approximately 10 mi out at 7000 ft. I then heard the controller tell the jet that he has traffic at his 12 O'clock, piper at 6500 ft VFR. I heard the jet asking to descend. The controller advised them to stay at 7000 ft until they have traffic in sight. Seconds later, I called back informing the controller that I had traffic in sight. The controller called the jet and told them that the piper has them in sight and that I was at their 12 O'clock and 6 mi out. A few seconds elapsed and the controller called them and told them to expedite their descent through 6000 ft. The controller then called me and told me to keep visual separation from the jet and that they were 4 mi at our 9 O'clock descending. I feel that this is the point that a mistake was made. Being the slower aircraft being overtaken by a much faster and larger aircraft who did not have us in sight, he should not have been allowed to descend until he had visual contact with me. I had to wait until he was fairly close to take evasive action because it was impossible to estimate whether he was going to pass to my nose, tail, on top or below. The evasive action was making a climbing left turn at the last min. After thanking me several times for helping out, the controller handed me off the charleston approach who did not have my squawk in their computer. According to charleston approach, somehow the computer tagged us with wxya as we were passed to approach control. I landed at osu for fuel, filed IFR to continue flight to air driven generator.

Title: AN SMA AND A JET HAD AN NMAC.

Narrative: I WAS ENRTE FROM W44 WITH VFR FLT FOLLOWING, SQUAWKING WXYZ, LEVEL AT 6500 FT IN THE BECKLY, WV, AREA. ZID ADVISED US OF JET TFC AT OUR 8 O'CLOCK APPROX 10 MI OUT AT 7000 FT. I THEN HEARD THE CTLR TELL THE JET THAT HE HAS TFC AT HIS 12 O'CLOCK, PIPER AT 6500 FT VFR. I HEARD THE JET ASKING TO DSND. THE CTLR ADVISED THEM TO STAY AT 7000 FT UNTIL THEY HAVE TFC IN SIGHT. SECONDS LATER, I CALLED BACK INFORMING THE CTLR THAT I HAD TFC IN SIGHT. THE CTLR CALLED THE JET AND TOLD THEM THAT THE PIPER HAS THEM IN SIGHT AND THAT I WAS AT THEIR 12 O'CLOCK AND 6 MI OUT. A FEW SECONDS ELAPSED AND THE CTLR CALLED THEM AND TOLD THEM TO EXPEDITE THEIR DSCNT THROUGH 6000 FT. THE CTLR THEN CALLED ME AND TOLD ME TO KEEP VISUAL SEPARATION FROM THE JET AND THAT THEY WERE 4 MI AT OUR 9 O'CLOCK DSNDING. I FEEL THAT THIS IS THE POINT THAT A MISTAKE WAS MADE. BEING THE SLOWER ACFT BEING OVERTAKEN BY A MUCH FASTER AND LARGER ACFT WHO DID NOT HAVE US IN SIGHT, HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO DSND UNTIL HE HAD VISUAL CONTACT WITH ME. I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL HE WAS FAIRLY CLOSE TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION BECAUSE IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO ESTIMATE WHETHER HE WAS GOING TO PASS TO MY NOSE, TAIL, ON TOP OR BELOW. THE EVASIVE ACTION WAS MAKING A CLBING L TURN AT THE LAST MIN. AFTER THANKING ME SEVERAL TIMES FOR HELPING OUT, THE CTLR HANDED ME OFF THE CHARLESTON APCH WHO DID NOT HAVE MY SQUAWK IN THEIR COMPUTER. ACCORDING TO CHARLESTON APCH, SOMEHOW THE COMPUTER TAGGED US WITH WXYA AS WE WERE PASSED TO APCH CTL. I LANDED AT OSU FOR FUEL, FILED IFR TO CONTINUE FLT TO ADG.
