Narrative:

I called amarillo ground and told them I was VFR to liberal requesting 4500 ft and I had the ATIS. He told me to taxi to runway 4. Then I asked if intersection B would be ok and he said it would. Another aircraft was taking off on runway 22. Then tower cleared me to depart runway 4. As the traffic flew past I taxied on the runway and followed the traffic. The problem was I was cleared to takeoff on runway 4 and instinctively followed the traffic taking off on runway 22. After taking off I realized what I did and told the tower what I did and they told me to contact departure. My corrective action would be to use all the runway available as to eliminate the possibility of departing in the wrong direction.
