Attempted water landing in amphibian. 2 ATP pilots aboard. Both thought landing was on smooth water, and were shocked to discover that the lake was ice covered so no takeoff was possible. Ice damaged hull. Got aircraft out of the water onto boat ramp. Aircraft to be trucked out.

Title: INSTRUCTOR PLT OF AN AMPHIBIAN ACFT DIRECTED TRAINEE TO LAND ON A LAKE THAT WAS, UNKNOWN TO THE PLTS, COVERED WITH ICE RESULTING IN ACFT DAMAGE TO THE ACFT 'HULL' AND THE ACFT BEING TRUCKED FROM THE LAKE.
