Narrative:

We were being vectored off the airway to start approach to runway 33L in bos. Our route was from pvd to bos. ATC decided to keep us at 3000 ft due to the short duration of flight. At 25 mi southeast of bos airport a target shows up on TCASII at same altitude (3000 ft). RA 'climb' is issued, which my first officer adhered to. ATC later confirmed seeing the target show up also and then thanked us for the correction.
