Narrative:

During takeoff, aft airstairs deployed (extended). Cooper vane did not engage airstairs. Crew of flight observed amber 'aft airstair' light illuminated and visually verified airstairs were down. Aircraft returned to denver. Prior to departure from denver, aircraft arrived from iah with inbound PIREP on aft airstair amber light illuminated in-flight. Maintenance (myself and another mechanic) placarded amber aft airstair light inoperative per MEL and complied with ddp. Review of history showed aircraft had maintenance done on aft airstairs during iah stop. Aircraft took off, airstairs fell down and aircraft returned to denver. Minimal damage to aft airstairs on landing.
