Narrative:
Assigned runway 35L for takeoff. Departed runway 4. The beginning of runway 4 is used as taxiway to 35L. Runup (stop short) is performed before reaching runway 4. After I taxied on to runway 4, I started takeoff. I checked directional gyro (dg) on roll and realized that something was wrong -- thought I had not set dg during runup. Should have aborted takeoff.
