Narrative:

We were cleared onto hold by cvg tower. While taxiing from the hammerhead onto the runway, we heard and felt a thud. After being 'cleared for takeoff' the plane behind us advised us that we had a flat tire and possibly ran over some runway edge lights. We taxied clear and notified ramp/maintenance who later confirmed and repaired our 2 left main gear tires. When taxiing onto hold subsequently, we realized how narrow that taxiway is and that it is over a 90 degree turn. A heavy weight aircraft, eager to use all available runway, can easily drive off the edge due to its narrow, tight turn, as we did.

Title: LGT TAXIES OFF RWY EDGE, CAUSES 2 FLAT TIRES.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED ONTO HOLD BY CVG TWR. WHILE TAXIING FROM THE HAMMERHEAD ONTO THE RWY, WE HEARD AND FELT A THUD. AFTER BEING 'CLRED FOR TKOF' THE PLANE BEHIND US ADVISED US THAT WE HAD A FLAT TIRE AND POSSIBLY RAN OVER SOME RWY EDGE LIGHTS. WE TAXIED CLR AND NOTIFIED RAMP/MAINT WHO LATER CONFIRMED AND REPAIRED OUR 2 L MAIN GEAR TIRES. WHEN TAXIING ONTO HOLD SUBSEQUENTLY, WE REALIZED HOW NARROW THAT TXWY IS AND THAT IT IS OVER A 90 DEG TURN. A HVY WT ACFT, EAGER TO USE ALL AVAILABLE RWY, CAN EASILY DRIVE OFF THE EDGE DUE TO ITS NARROW, TIGHT TURN, AS WE DID.
