Narrative:

TCASII worked great. It may have saved the day. Got TA followed by RA while descending to petis NDB from hector VOR on approach to ont, ca. We notified approach control of TCASII traffic 1400 ft below. He said turn right to 270 degree heading which put traffic directly below us. TCASII advised reduce descent and then RA climb which we did (ATC was advised of climb). Small single engine aircraft passed directly below us approximately 300 ft below. Visibility was very poor for us looking directly into sun and heavy haze. At one point the small aircraft advised he had us in sight.

SMALL SINGLE ENG ACFT PASSED DIRECTLY BELOW US APPROX 300 FT BELOW. VISIBILITY WAS VERY POOR FOR US LOOKING DIRECTLY INTO SUN AND HVY HAZE. AT ONE POINT THE SMALL ACFT ADVISED HE HAD US IN SIGHT.
