Narrative:

At cruise, level at FL390, N1 on the #1 (left) engine decreased rapidly while the respective itt rose significantly. After those indications, the captain called for engine shutdown and to advise ATC of our problem. When I notified ATC, I asked for the nearest airport and its distance. I was asked if I wanted to declare an emergency, but at the captain's request, I replied with a negative answer. ATC cleared us to FL240 then asked if we wanted a clearance to medford. After reviewing the airport facilities for appropriate runway length and lighting, I accepted a direct clearance to medford. Clearance down to 10000 ft and for the visual runway 32 was given and accepted. When communicating with medford tower, I requested to have rescue standing by. The landing was made without any problems. Though I never requested an emergency priority, ATC was able to give us an immediate descent and clearance to an airport.
