Narrative:

During a maximum performance climb, left engine temperature increased to an uncomfortable (not dangerous) level. I leveled at 9000 ft for approximately 2 mins. An air carrier mdt passed in front of me nebound. Neither of us diverted. After the air carrier passed I continued to climb. Upon getting within 15 mi of acy, I checked in with acy approach. The controller asked me if I was at 9000 ft and informed me ZNY had inquired. At this time I do not know if the center or air carrier may have reported a possible altitude violation.
