Narrative:
On climb out from atl, #1 engine oil filter bypass illuminated. I called for the appropriate abnormal checklist. Light went out briefly at idle, then re-illuminated. Engine was shut down and turned back atl. Emergency declared and equipment called out as precaution. Examination of filter on deck revealed metal chips the size of red pepper flakes.

Narrative: ON CLBOUT FROM ATL, #1 ENG OIL FILTER BYPASS ILLUMINATED. I CALLED FOR THE APPROPRIATE ABNORMAL CHKLIST. LIGHT WENT OUT BRIEFLY AT IDLE, THEN RE-ILLUMINATED. ENG WAS SHUT DOWN AND TURNED BACK ATL. EMER DECLARED AND EQUIP CALLED OUT AS PRECAUTION. EXAMINATION OF FILTER ON DECK REVEALED METAL CHIPS THE SIZE OF RED PEPPER FLAKES.
