Narrative:

Our dispatch release allowed us to depart with 3548 pounds of fuel from charleston, sc, to dulles (iad). I contacted dispatch to ask them if we could go with 3548 pounds. Dispatched with 3548 pounds allowed us to burn 2500 pounds with 1000 pounds of reserve fuel with no alternate required. After we leveled off, I computed our burn and found out that the aircraft was using more fuel than planned. Causes: tired engines, above isa temperatures, heavy aircraft. I notified dispatch and told them we were deviating to richmond, va. We landed at ric with 1100 pounds of fuel. We were approximately 400 pounds light for continuing to iad and having legal reserve fuel.
