Narrative:

ZBW handed us off to pvd approach on V374 and 11000 ft en route to ack. The controller was not aware of our handoff and gave us another pvd approach frequency. He also did not know about the handoff and was very slow reacting. He also was unable to fix us on radar and asked several times if we were en route to mvy. He seemed unable to handle us. At about 15 mi west of ack and still at 11000 ft, we asked if it would help to cancel IFR and land at ack VFR. He said it would, so we cancelled and called approach for an IFR clearance into ack. All went normal after that. I feel the controller may have been inexperienced and that his supervisor should have stepped in to help.
