Narrative:

Approximately 10 NM on huo 207 degree radial en route to newark, new york approach called VFR traffic at 12 O'clock, 5500 ft unverified. With traffic not yet in sight, we requested turn away from traffic. Just then, the captain saw traffic, took aircraft control and turned slightly left and climbed. Traffic, a tan small aircraft, was at 12 O'clock, same altitude (6000 ft). I stated I had traffic and then resumed aircraft control. Small aircraft appeared to be climbing VFR. He was on a busy IFR arrival route over huo VOR so maybe the standard arrival routings and altitude can be published and distributed to local new york/new jersey airports.
