Narrative:

On downwind from a scheduled flight from hnl to lax, before abeam romen intersection, approach asked if we saw the airport. First officer and captain saw the airport. ILS and ADF were tuned in. On base, we were on vectors and cleared for the visual approach runway 24L, but runway 24R ILS was tuned in. The captain assumed the needle position to be to the right and used the GS as a guide on the descent from 2500 ft to landing. On turning from base to final, the captain saw the runway after approach cleared us for the visual but he saw runway 25L and runway 25R complex. From the time we originally saw the airport until now, fog had come in from the sea and obscured the view from our position for runway 24L and runway 24R. We lined up for runway 25L with the ILS tuned up as expected off to the right. On final, 3 or 4 mi out, tower (now) said we had drifted over and asked us to correct. After assessing the situation, we turned and lined up for and landed runway 24L without incident. Tower said there was no traffic affected and it has happened before. Landed uneventfully.

Title: AN ACR WDB CREW LINED UP ON THE WRONG RWY AT LAX AT NIGHT WITH FOG COMING IN.

Narrative: ON DOWNWIND FROM A SCHEDULED FLT FROM HNL TO LAX, BEFORE ABEAM ROMEN INTXN, APCH ASKED IF WE SAW THE ARPT. FO AND CAPT SAW THE ARPT. ILS AND ADF WERE TUNED IN. ON BASE, WE WERE ON VECTORS AND CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH RWY 24L, BUT RWY 24R ILS WAS TUNED IN. THE CAPT ASSUMED THE NEEDLE POS TO BE TO THE R AND USED THE GS AS A GUIDE ON THE DSCNT FROM 2500 FT TO LNDG. ON TURNING FROM BASE TO FINAL, THE CAPT SAW THE RWY AFTER APCH CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL BUT HE SAW RWY 25L AND RWY 25R COMPLEX. FROM THE TIME WE ORIGINALLY SAW THE ARPT UNTIL NOW, FOG HAD COME IN FROM THE SEA AND OBSCURED THE VIEW FROM OUR POS FOR RWY 24L AND RWY 24R. WE LINED UP FOR RWY 25L WITH THE ILS TUNED UP AS EXPECTED OFF TO THE R. ON FINAL, 3 OR 4 MI OUT, TWR (NOW) SAID WE HAD DRIFTED OVER AND ASKED US TO CORRECT. AFTER ASSESSING THE SIT, WE TURNED AND LINED UP FOR AND LANDED RWY 24L WITHOUT INCIDENT. TWR SAID THERE WAS NO TFC AFFECTED AND IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. LANDED UNEVENTFULLY.
