Narrative:

I was at lbb on the west side of the airport. I received the following clearance: 'small aircraft X taxi runway 8.' I taxied to the runway and crossed runway 17R. There was an MTR on short final. When I crossed the runway, the opposite traffic was of no factor. I stopped short of the hash marks on runway 8. The ground controller radioed that he had to file a pilot deviation for crossing runway 17R. I was unfamiliar with the lubbock, tx, airport and did not know that the threshold is displaced west of runway 17R. The ground controller did not give me instructions to hold short of runway 17R so I crossed it. The FAA representative said that there had been trouble with this runway previously and that similar problems or incidents have occurred. He suggested that I submit this report explaining the incident.

Title: SMA Y RWY INCURSION WITH TFC ON FINAL APCH. SYS ERROR.

Narrative: I WAS AT LBB ON THE W SIDE OF THE ARPT. I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING CLRNC: 'SMA X TAXI RWY 8.' I TAXIED TO THE RWY AND CROSSED RWY 17R. THERE WAS AN MTR ON SHORT FINAL. WHEN I CROSSED THE RWY, THE OPPOSITE TFC WAS OF NO FACTOR. I STOPPED SHORT OF THE HASH MARKS ON RWY 8. THE GND CTLR RADIOED THAT HE HAD TO FILE A PLTDEV FOR XING RWY 17R. I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE LUBBOCK, TX, ARPT AND DID NOT KNOW THAT THE THRESHOLD IS DISPLACED W OF RWY 17R. THE GND CTLR DID NOT GIVE ME INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 17R SO I CROSSED IT. THE FAA REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT THERE HAD BEEN TROUBLE WITH THIS RWY PREVIOUSLY AND THAT SIMILAR PROBS OR INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED. HE SUGGESTED THAT I SUBMIT THIS RPT EXPLAINING THE INCIDENT.
