Narrative:

After departure from cos, ATC asked us to call the tower on the phone. After calling ATC I found out that on takeoff we had blown over some large orange barrels that were being used to make a construction area and disrupted the construction work. Please see attached diagram. We taxied north on taxiway a and held short of runway 17R. The NOTAMS stated runway 17R 'threshold displaced 1750 ft.' I assumed the orange barrels in the diagram constituted the displaced threshold. Evidently they did not. I was told there was a displaced threshold marked further down the runway. I did not see it either on takeoff or on the previous landing. Maybe my attention was focused only on the barrels (day-glo orange) and I didn't look any further. We were told to taxi into position and hold on runway 17R and I went a little further down the runway than I normally would have and stopped near the hold short line in the diagram. Obviously this wasn't far enough and evidently not down to the displaced threshold. After holding in position for a short time, I added takeoff power and began the takeoff roll. At this point, I'm still not sure how I could have avoided the misunderstanding of where the threshold was supposed to be. Supplemental information from acn 245291: we taxied into position and held a bit further down the runway than normal, but any markings on the runway itself were not observed. The takeoff was normal. Suggest: more prominent runway markings when there is construction nearby, also a prominent takeoff power point.

Title: MLG JET BLAST BLOWS OVER BARRELS AT CONSTRUCTION SITE ON RWY.

Narrative: AFTER DEP FROM COS, ATC ASKED US TO CALL THE TWR ON THE PHONE. AFTER CALLING ATC I FOUND OUT THAT ON TKOF WE HAD BLOWN OVER SOME LARGE ORANGE BARRELS THAT WERE BEING USED TO MAKE A CONSTRUCTION AREA AND DISRUPTED THE CONSTRUCTION WORK. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED DIAGRAM. WE TAXIED N ON TXWY A AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 17R. THE NOTAMS STATED RWY 17R 'THRESHOLD DISPLACED 1750 FT.' I ASSUMED THE ORANGE BARRELS IN THE DIAGRAM CONSTITUTED THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD. EVIDENTLY THEY DID NOT. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A DISPLACED THRESHOLD MARKED FURTHER DOWN THE RWY. I DID NOT SEE IT EITHER ON TKOF OR ON THE PREVIOUS LNDG. MAYBE MY ATTN WAS FOCUSED ONLY ON THE BARRELS (DAY-GLO ORANGE) AND I DIDN'T LOOK ANY FURTHER. WE WERE TOLD TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 17R AND I WENT A LITTLE FURTHER DOWN THE RWY THAN I NORMALLY WOULD HAVE AND STOPPED NEAR THE HOLD SHORT LINE IN THE DIAGRAM. OBVIOUSLY THIS WASN'T FAR ENOUGH AND EVIDENTLY NOT DOWN TO THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD. AFTER HOLDING IN POS FOR A SHORT TIME, I ADDED TKOF PWR AND BEGAN THE TKOF ROLL. AT THIS POINT, I'M STILL NOT SURE HOW I COULD HAVE AVOIDED THE MISUNDERSTANDING OF WHERE THE THRESHOLD WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 245291: WE TAXIED INTO POS AND HELD A BIT FURTHER DOWN THE RWY THAN NORMAL, BUT ANY MARKINGS ON THE RWY ITSELF WERE NOT OBSERVED. THE TKOF WAS NORMAL. SUGGEST: MORE PROMINENT RWY MARKINGS WHEN THERE IS CONSTRUCTION NEARBY, ALSO A PROMINENT TKOF PWR POINT.
