Narrative:

Pushed off gate for engine start. When ready for taxi, ground controller cleared us to 'taxi to runway 31C, cross runway 31R.' as we crossed runway 31R an light transport air carrier had to go around. We had been doing the preflight checklist while taxiing, but I believe the captain looked (his side of aircraft) but did not see the light transport Y until it started the go around. We checked in with tower and restated that we had been cleared for taxi across runway 31R. There was no comment from tower regarding the go around, etc. Increased vigilance on all parties and reducing the taxiing (preflight) checklist to only those items which cannot be accomplished at the gate could have prevented this.
