Narrative:

Taxiing to runway 6 at roa. We didn't see the hold short line for runway 6 until we were on it. We stopped then, all wheels were behind the line but the nose was 2 ft over. The hold short line needs to be better defined. Mainly because it is not at the end of the runway but 500 ft prior to the end (not where you would expect it). The chart shows it very small and contains no notes about it. Further there are remains of 2 other hold short lines that were not well enough removed. Solution: 1) define the hold short line for runway 6 at roa better. 2) put a note in the commercial charts about it. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter described the location of the hold line he crossed. He added that the location has been modified, the hold line improved and a sign located next to the taxiway to help notice it. There is also another sign to the east that says 'hold line 300 ft ahead.' he thinks the problem has been solved.

Title: RWY HOLD LINE LOCATED IN AN UNEXPECTED LOCATION LEADS RPTR TO TAXI SLIGHTLY PAST IT.

Narrative: TAXIING TO RWY 6 AT ROA. WE DIDN'T SEE THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 6 UNTIL WE WERE ON IT. WE STOPPED THEN, ALL WHEELS WERE BEHIND THE LINE BUT THE NOSE WAS 2 FT OVER. THE HOLD SHORT LINE NEEDS TO BE BETTER DEFINED. MAINLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT AT THE END OF THE RWY BUT 500 FT PRIOR TO THE END (NOT WHERE YOU WOULD EXPECT IT). THE CHART SHOWS IT VERY SMALL AND CONTAINS NO NOTES ABOUT IT. FURTHER THERE ARE REMAINS OF 2 OTHER HOLD SHORT LINES THAT WERE NOT WELL ENOUGH REMOVED. SOLUTION: 1) DEFINE THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 6 AT ROA BETTER. 2) PUT A NOTE IN THE COMMERCIAL CHARTS ABOUT IT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR DESCRIBED THE LOCATION OF THE HOLD LINE HE CROSSED. HE ADDED THAT THE LOCATION HAS BEEN MODIFIED, THE HOLD LINE IMPROVED AND A SIGN LOCATED NEXT TO THE TXWY TO HELP NOTICE IT. THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER SIGN TO THE E THAT SAYS 'HOLD LINE 300 FT AHEAD.' HE THINKS THE PROB HAS BEEN SOLVED.
