Narrative:

We were established on final approach with the airplane configured (flaps 40 degrees, gear down). Tower withheld landing clearance, advising there would be an small aircraft landing in front of us due to the small aircraft's low fuel status. We offered to execute a 360 degree turn, tower declined. We observed the small aircraft at 1- 1:30 O'clock position, moving right to left, very close (I would estimate no more than .5 NM). I was flying and executed a go around (climbing right turn) to avoid the small aircraft. Simultaneously received a TCASII 'climb, climb now' RA. Tower told us to turn left, but we did not do so because we believed that would have put us in an even closer proximity to the other aircraft. The right turn was executed so our flight path would pass behind the small aircraft.

Title: MLG AND SMA HAVE CONFLICT WHILE ON APCH TO SNA.

Narrative: WE WERE ESTABLISHED ON FINAL APCH WITH THE AIRPLANE CONFIGURED (FLAPS 40 DEGS, GEAR DOWN). TWR WITHHELD LNDG CLRNC, ADVISING THERE WOULD BE AN SMA LNDG IN FRONT OF US DUE TO THE SMA'S LOW FUEL STATUS. WE OFFERED TO EXECUTE A 360 DEG TURN, TWR DECLINED. WE OBSERVED THE SMA AT 1- 1:30 O'CLOCK POS, MOVING R TO L, VERY CLOSE (I WOULD ESTIMATE NO MORE THAN .5 NM). I WAS FLYING AND EXECUTED A GAR (CLBING R TURN) TO AVOID THE SMA. SIMULTANEOUSLY RECEIVED A TCASII 'CLB, CLB NOW' RA. TWR TOLD US TO TURN L, BUT WE DID NOT DO SO BECAUSE WE BELIEVED THAT WOULD HAVE PUT US IN AN EVEN CLOSER PROX TO THE OTHER ACFT. THE R TURN WAS EXECUTED SO OUR FLT PATH WOULD PASS BEHIND THE SMA.
